Gaslighting Check vs. Verity
Reviewed by Jacob Reed, founder of Verity ·
Short answer
Gaslighting Check uses AI to point out possible manipulation in text you paste or upload, screenshots and audio, and helps you draft replies; plans are $14.99 or $29.99 a month, and its privacy policy says the analysis runs through OpenAI. Verity reads a whole exported conversation in your browser, without uploading it, and turns it into a dated record for a lawyer, with one-time prices. Both have a free way to check a few messages.
The two overlap less than their names suggest. One is a companion for understanding and answering a difficult person; the other is for putting months of messages in order before a lawyer reads them.
1.What each one is built to do
Gaslighting Check
Help you make sense of a hurtful exchange: it flags possible manipulation in what you give it, helps separate facts from feelings, drafts replies, and offers a recovery journal. Its site says it cannot diagnose a person, prove intent or verify a disputed account.
Verity
Organize a whole conversation for a lawyer or a hearing: the patterns across months of messages, each flagged message quoted with its date, and a numbered list of every message.
2.How you give it your messages
Gaslighting Check
Paste text, upload a .txt or .md transcript, add screenshots, or upload or record audio. Its site says each report takes up to 30,000 characters, and suggests splitting longer text.
Verity
Upload the app’s own export of the whole conversation (WhatsApp, iPhone, Android, Messenger, Instagram, Gmail, OurFamilyWizard, TalkingParents and more), or pick screenshots. For a few messages, paste them into the free text check.
3.Where your messages go
Gaslighting Check
Its home page says text is only saved locally until you create an account. Its privacy policy says text analysis and audio transcription run through OpenAI’s API, that data is stored with Supabase, and that history is kept 7 days on the free tier, 30 days on Plus and indefinitely on Pro. Deleting your account deletes your data within 30 days.
Verity
The export, the pasted text and the screenshots are read in your browser and not uploaded, including when you buy. No account.
4.What you get back
Gaslighting Check
An on-screen analysis. Plus adds full reports with verbatim quotes; Pro adds what it calls a court-ready Evidence Builder and unlimited history.
Verity
A free on-screen preview with the patterns found, one flagged message in full and every message readable on screen. Paid PDFs: a numbered list of every message in date order, and reports quoting the flagged messages with their dates.
5.Price
Gaslighting Check
A free analysis to start. Plus is $14.99 a month and Pro $29.99 a month, with a monthly token allowance; yearly billing saves two months.
Verity
Free text check and free preview. One-time: $19 numbered message list, $99 Standard report, $149 Detailed report. No subscription.
6.Safety features
Gaslighting Check
Charges appear on a card statement as “GC TECH”, with no mention of relationships or emotions.
Verity
A quick-exit button on every page and the domestic violence hotline in the footer. A one-time payment shows on a card statement with “VERITY” in the name.
Which one fits your situation?
If you want help understanding one exchange, deciding how to answer, or you have a voice recording, Gaslighting Check covers that, and its discreet billing is a real safety feature. If the messages may go to a lawyer or a hearing, what matters is the whole conversation with every message's sender and date, and knowing where your messages went. Verity reads the export in your browser, so the conversation, which often names your children, their school and your address, is not sent to anyone.
Whichever you use, read what it flags yourself. Both tools read words, not people, and our own testing found that much real abuse is worded in ways a pattern check misses; the methodology page has the numbers. For the wider field, see apps that check text messages for manipulation.
If you are in danger now, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233, or text START to 88788.
This is general information, not legal advice, and Verity is not a law firm. We make Verity, so weigh what we say about it accordingly. Gaslighting Check's features, prices and data handling are as its own home page, pricing page and privacy policy (last updated August 21, 2026) described them on October 22, 2026, and can change; check gaslightingcheck.com before relying on them.
