Using WhatsApp Chat Exports in a Custody Case

4.Group chats complicate things
A shared family or co-parenting group chat mixes multiple participants — when exporting, keep in mind that a group export includes everyone in it, not just you and one other person.
5.Deleted messages show up as a placeholder, not a gap
WhatsApp's export typically shows "This message was deleted" in place of a removed message rather than silently omitting it — which is itself sometimes a useful data point about the conversation.
What to do with the export once you have it
A raw WhatsApp export can run to hundreds of pages for a long relationship or co-parenting arrangement. Reading it start to finish to identify patterns — coordination breaking down consistently, hostility clustered around specific topics, stonewalling — is exactly the kind of task that's slow by hand and fast with the right tool.
