What App Can Analyze a WhatsApp Chat for Toxic or Abusive Behavior?

Short answer
Several read WhatsApp's own chat export. LoveGraft and FlagMyChat score a couple's chat with red flags and a toxicity or health score, for a few dollars. Verity flags abusive patterns such as threats, gaslighting, blame-shifting and demands for replies across the whole chat, keeps every message dated, and reads the export in your browser without uploading it. First export the chat: in WhatsApp, open it, choose Export chat, and pick “Without media”.
WhatsApp makes this easier than most apps: it has a built-in export that keeps every message with its sender and time. Any of these tools starts from that file.
Step 1: export the chat
- iPhone: open the chat, tap the contact's name at the top, scroll down to Export Chat, and choose Without Media. You get a zip file to save or share.
- Android: open the chat, tap the three dots, then More, then Export chat, and choose Without media. You get a .txt file.
- Computer: WhatsApp on the web, Windows and Mac can export a chat too, for all messages or a date range.

Step 2: pick the kind of app
1.Couples chat scorers
LoveGraft gives a relationship health score, red flags and who-texts-first statistics; its site says the full analysis is €4.99 once and chat files are deleted within 2 days. FlagMyChat gives toxicity and compatibility scores; its site says the zip is opened in your browser and only the message text it needs is sent to an AI, for $3.99. Good for a quick read on a relationship, less so if you may need to show the messages to someone.
2.Paste-in checkers
Tether, DARVO.app, Gaslighting Check and Verity's free text check read messages you paste in rather than the whole export. Useful for one exchange; they see only what you paste. See apps that check texts for manipulation.
3.Whole-chat pattern reading for documentation
Verity reads the whole WhatsApp export in your browser, so the chat is not uploaded. It flags patterns such as threats, gaslighting, blame-shifting, character criticism, contempt, message flooding and demands for replies, keeps every flagged message with its date, and can number every message in date order for a lawyer.
What to check before you upload a WhatsApp chat
- Where it goes and how long it stays. Read the privacy page. A chat holds the other person's words too.
- Whether dates and senders survive. They matter if you ever need the messages for a lawyer or a court.
- Your safety. If someone can see your phone, use a private window, and delete the exported file from your downloads when you are done.
What can't these apps do?
They read words and timing. They can flag a joke as an insult and miss cruelty that is politely worded, and none can say what anyone meant or whether a court will accept the result.
