How Long Does OurFamilyWizard Keep Messages, and How Do You Get Them for Court?
Reviewed by Jacob Reed, founder of Verity ·

Short answer
OurFamilyWizard says that once a message is sent it is permanent: no editing, no deleting, by either parent. You can download and print your own reports from your account for free, and depending on your plan, OurFamilyWizard can produce the same reports with a notarized business record affidavit for court, for a fee. It names no period for keeping records after a subscription lapses, and its renewal page talks about avoiding a lapse in access, so download your message report while your subscription is active.
Many parents are ordered onto OurFamilyWizard precisely because its record can't be changed. The practical questions are how to get that record out, and when.
What OurFamilyWizard keeps
Its support page puts it plainly: once you or your co-parent sends a message, it is permanent, with no editing and no deleting. Family law professionals with Professional Accounts can, with your permission, view messages and download reports. When a message was first viewed is recorded too; see OurFamilyWizard "first viewed" times.
Getting your records
- Yourself, free: sign in and download or print the reports (steps in how to download the OurFamilyWizard message report).
- From OurFamilyWizard, with an affidavit: depending on your plan, it can produce the same reports and notarize a business record affidavit for court, sent electronically or by mail; fees may apply. It says reports won't include the other parent's private information.
- By subpoena: OurFamilyWizard says it complies with subpoenas issued under a court order that meet the Minnesota Rules of Civil Procedure or other applicable rules, following Minnesota law unless other law applies.
Download while you are subscribed
OurFamilyWizard's help pages don't state how long records stay available after a subscription ends, and its renewal page describes renewing as the way to prevent a lapse in service and access. The safe course: download the full message report now, and again before any hearing, while you can sign in.
Reading the report
Verity reads the OurFamilyWizard message report PDF in your browser, without uploading it, numbers every message in date order and flags patterns such as threats, gaslighting and blame-shifting. Few real reports have been through it yet, so tell us if yours reads wrongly; see analyzing OurFamilyWizard and TalkingParents messages. Comparing apps? See OurFamilyWizard vs regular texting.
