How Long Does TalkingParents Keep Messages, and How Do You Get Them for Court?
Reviewed by Jacob Reed, founder of Verity ·

Short answer
Indefinitely, by design. TalkingParents says its app creates a permanent record: an account can't be deleted once it is created, account activity is always stored, and no one can edit or delete a message after it is sent. The courts can't sign in to your account; you share the record by downloading or printing it. You can download or email yourself a PDF of your Secure Messaging, every conversation or one thread.
That permanence is the point of the app, for both parents. Your messages are in the record too.
What TalkingParents keeps
- Every message, unchangeable: TalkingParents says messages can't be edited or deleted after they are sent, by anyone.
- Your account, permanently: it can't be deleted, and its activity is stored for future reference. You can log out or remove the app, but the record stays.
- Calls made through the app, if you use that feature; see TalkingParents call recordings.
Getting your record
TalkingParents says you can download or email yourself a PDF record of Secure Messaging, all conversations or a single thread, and that sharing with a court means downloading or printing those records, because no one else can access your account. The steps, and the plan details for the Complete Message Record, are in how to download the TalkingParents message record.
If something looks missing
TalkingParents says no one can delete messages in the app, and asks users who think something is missing to contact its support team. Do that in writing and keep the reply.
Reading the record
Verity reads the TalkingParents Complete Message Record PDF in your browser, without uploading it, numbers every message in date order, prints when each subject was viewed where the record shows it, and flags patterns such as threats and gaslighting.
